females

As a relatively new herd the Bassingbourn herd is made up of a wide ranging number of female lines, however, throughout our early purchases the same basic criteria have been at the forefront of our selections.

The herd has been founded on strong, correct, feminine lines with the aim of breeding a great crop of homebred heifers to add to the herd and to breed powerful bulls suited to both commercial and pedigree use.

Early purchases included females from the Grange and Winnington herds, with both these batches of heifers quickly showing their potential as great breeders and leaving a great first crop of calves.

Further purchases have come from the Roughley and Cockleshell herds and again these were selected for their correctness, style and power.

A brace of exceptional heifers have been bought from the Ironstone herd, with Ironstone Fantasy and Fruitytuity both combining great male and female lines which it is hoped will form the basis of great cow families at Bassingbourn.

Foundation females have also been bought from the Coachhouse and Miscombe herds and these powerful cows and heifers have also shown great early potential and will combine well with our early bull choices to leave progeny suited for both retention and sale.

In all the females bought in to form the herd locomtion, power and strength through the topline have been key criteria and the belief has been that a herd is only founded once so it has to done well.

We are looking forward to developing the herd over time with these females and their progeny and have high hopes for them, with the first homebred stock already displaying exceptional promise.
